Rothko-Style Dualities

Windows of Motion & Stillness

Interplays of light and dark, cool and warm, tension and release.

A portrait-format collection where vertical fields hold the pull between opposing emotional states.

Breath Between by William R. Stanek

Story of the art

Windows of Motion & Stillness is a collection of vertical meditations on duality. Each work stages a relationship between opposing states: warm against cool, hush against charge, stillness against movement, separation against the possibility of contact.

Unlike the raw drama of Soulstorm, this series works through tension more quietly. Feathered seams, matte mist, palette-knife edges, and rising vapor fields make the paintings feel suspended between decision and drift.

The effect is contemplative rather than explosive. These works invite long looking, allowing feeling to gather inside vertical color relationships rather than burst outward.

Why collectors connect

Collectors are drawn to these paintings because they hold tension without noise. The works feel resolved enough to calm a room, yet unstable enough to keep unfolding over time.

They offer a refined emotional architecture: still, vertical, and contemplative, while never becoming empty or merely decorative.

Visual language

  • Portrait-format Rothko-style verticals with feathered edges and internal haze
  • Dualities staged through warm/cool and light/dark contrasts
  • Surface treatments that suggest drift, vapor, pause, and held energy
  • A quieter companion to the more eruptive Fusion Fieldworks paintings

Artist perspective

“Geometry used to hold feeling. Until it spills.”
“These are not color fields. They are soul fields.”
“This is what a moment feels like when it has nowhere left to go.”
