Notes: Cutting costs is Job #1 in this economy. Readers and attendees of past sessions have asked me to cut costs, make it easier to attend, etc. To cut costs, I'm doing several things. First, I'm asking attendees to bring their own laptops that meet the required hardware criteria for a particular class. Second, while attendees liked the more personal, smaller classes, they almost universally would rather have training cost less and don't mind large classes if that helps lower costs. Third, the training kits I print up while nice aren't worth the extra costs; they'd rather just bring my book or books on the subject the class covers themselves. Fourth, we don't need catering; get rid of it. My response: done and done and done and done.

Attendees will need to bring their own laptops from now on. Minimum specs: 64-bit capable laptop with dual core processor, and 2 GB RAM. Laptops to arrive installed with operating system and software required for class, as listed below. Trial versions and/or from TechNet membership will get you through.  I've increased class size to Unlimited, with a minimum size of 12. These changes allow me to reduce costs substantially.

I love giving seminars on-location! You save travel costs and can choose the seminars you want me to give to meet the needs of your team.

For on-location seminars:

  • Training must be a minimum of 5 days or 2 sessions. You can combine any 3-day, 2-day or 2 1/2 day sessions you want to come up with the fives days or have one 5-day session, such as the Essential Windows XP Administration course.
  • A minimum of 15 people must attend or be paid for. Payment must be made 4 - 6 weeks in advance of the class start date. This means a check or a purchase order must be received a minimum of 4 - 6 weeks prior to start day of training.
  • The cost per attendee is dependent on the number of attendees. Please send an email request to williamstanek@aol.com for an exact quote.

Training Seminar Cancellation/Refund Policy

If you cancel your enrollment at least four weeks before class starts, you can get a 100% refund.  If you find the class unsatisfactory by noon on the first day, you may withdraw for a 75% refund as long as you inform the instructor in person at that time and return all your class materials.

Additionally, I reserve the right to cancel a seminar. This may happen in case of an emergency or if I do not receive a sufficient number of paid registrations. I won't cancel a seminar unless it is absolutely necessary. If this happens, all paid attendees will get full refunds.

Who's Teaching?

I teach all classes. There will never be a substitute. Here's the bio blurb if you need to know more:

William R. Stanek (williamstanek@aol.com) has over 20 years of hands-on experience with advanced programming and development. He is a leading technology expert and an award-winning author. Over the years, his practical advice has helped millions of programmers, developers and network engineers all over the world. He has written over 50 computer books, which are sold all over the world and there are more than 3 million copies of his books in print. Current or forthcoming books include Windows Server 2008 Inside Out, Windows Command-Line Administrator's Pocket Consultant 2nd Edition, Exchange Server 2010 Administrator's Pocket Consultant, Windows Server 2008 Administrator's Pocket Consultant 2nd Edition, Windows 7 Administrator's Pocket Consultant and IIS 7.0 Administrator's Pocket Consultant.

William has been involved in the commercial Internet community since 1991. His core business and technology experience comes from over 11 years of military service. He has substantial experience in developing server technology, encryption, and Internet solutions. He has written many technical white papers and training courses on a wide variety of topics. He is widely sought after as a subject matter expert.

William has an MS in Information Systems degree with distinction and a BS Computer Science degree magna cum laude. He is proud to have served in the Persian Gulf War as a combat crewmember on an electronic warfare aircraft. He flew on numerous combat missions into Iraq and was awarded nine medals for his wartime service, including one of the United States of America's highest flying honors, the Air Force Distinguished Flying Cross. Currently, he resides in the Pacific Northwest with his wife and children.

What do I offer other instructors don't? My style is non-traditional. Some would call it--gasp--unorthodox; I prefer to think of it more as nonconformist. And, it's the same style I've been using ever since I started instructing. Trust me, you'll have fun, be challenged and learn.

Why attend? I'm one of the few instructors who is an expert in Windows, Active Directory, Group Policy, SQL Server, Exchange Server, PowerShell and IIS. The many books I've written on these subjects and subjects like scripting and command-line administration, provide a unique learning opportunity.

Why Olympia, Lacey, or Tacoma? All my training courses and seminars are currently conducted in Washington. The beautiful city of Olympia and its sister city Lacey are located in the South Puget Sound. A quick 20 - 45-minute drive from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and an hour and a half from Portland, Oregon. Having a central training location lets me teach a wider variety of courses than I otherwise would be able to if I was always traveling. So why not escape the traffic and come to South Puget Sound? Hotel costs are lower; there's little traffic; many dining choices are close to training; and the overall experience is first-rate. I think you'll find my training seminars are a new and refreshing change of pace.

Why did you move most of the training to Lacey, Olympia, or Tacoma? Primarily because of better prices for attendees, more catering options, and more conference options. I was able to ensure good rates for rooms (about $60/night on average), plus there's free or low-cost shuttle service to the airport -- all together that saves you $200 - $300 on hotel and travel expenses. Plus with the additional catering and conference options, I can do more and, I hope, make the overall experience better.
